Signed A Garment of Grace Dennis Tinsman Christian Living Forgiveness & Grace, Dennis Tinsman
1 Dennis Tinsman Signed A Garment of Grace Dennis Tinsman Christian Living Forgiveness & Grace
0964341115 / 9780964341111 Faith, Hope, & Love Publishing 1995 Paperback Used: Very Good Paperback Trade Paperback
This Inscribed paperback book was published in 1995 by Faith, Hope, & Love Publishing with 96 pages. Inscribed by the author inside the front cover. The text is unmarked. The binding is tight. There is normal shelf and edge wear. In A Garment of Grace, Dennis Tinsman lets the reader see that the upper room can be a place as humble as room D-214, reached by a stairway as steep as a ladder and furnished with bunk beds and an ancient desk. In that room, after a nosedive through alcholism and abusive behavior to the use of crack cocaine, he travelled through his grief and remorse toward rebirth, the garment that God's grace is.Mr. Tinsman tells of the strength of fellowship in Christ, giving as examples stories of the friendship and support of a congregation in Nashville, Michigan, and the camaraderie of its whip-cracking guide, whom the author refers to as Pastor, as well as the godly wisdom a little old lady (a "raisin") shared with him. The confident testimony of this seminarian is simply phrased, by turns humorous and moving, an eloquent tribute to the healing forgiveness of his Savior.

Secrets of the Heart Richard Dortch Christian Living Inscribed by Author, Dortch, Richard W.
2 Dortch, Richard W. Secrets of the Heart Richard Dortch Christian Living Inscribed by Author
0892212993 / 9780892212996 New Leaf Pr 1996-01-01 First Edition Paperback Used: Very Good Paperback Signed
This First Edition paperback book is Inscribed by the Author and was published in 1996 by New Leaf Press with 191 pages. The text is unmarked. The binding is tight. There is normal shelf and edge wear. The corners are bumped. Introduction I remember the night my good friend Neil Eskelin asked me the simple question, "What is it you want to say in your book?" I was writing my first book, Integ¬rity — which came to be a best seller. My response to my colleague was totally transparent, "I want to write about integrity; how I lost it, and my journey back."In the days spent on that project I came to grips with my past, and at every opportunity I asked to be forgiven by anyone who would listen. In deep humil¬ity I sought answers and made some discoveries about things I believed I knew — but did not. After much reflection I have come to the conclu¬sion that the most significant factor in our lives is truth. Why is it so vital? Because God is truth and every good thing in life flows from Him.I have no messianic feelings about presenting this book. I am simply pursuing the single most important thing in life — truth. There are some things you know you must do. The writing of this manuscript is one of those things. I not only followed my heart but it became a passion. As I began to write it was like an artesian well spring¬ing up within me. I knew what Jesus meant when He said, "Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matt. 12:34). As I explored the topic, I could hear Neil asking the question again, "What is it you want to say in this book?"The answer to that question is based on these facts:•The essence of all truth is God.•When we violate truth we violate God, becauseHe is truth.•Truth is the only way to God — our path towholeness and the one foundation of life that will stand.•Truth is everything in our relationship to Godand to others, and is central to our quest for self-dis¬covery.•There can be no compromises, choices, or sub¬stitutes for truth.•Christ declared, "I am the way, the truth, andthe life" (John 14:6).Closely tied to this subject is the issue of secrecy. What we will be discussing does not concern the se¬crets we have confessed long ago to God or those we have acknowledged to others fulfilling the Scripture, "Confess your faults one to another" (James 5:16). Rather, we will address the deceptive nature of the se¬crets we hold because of shame.I remember the day I listened to the story of a friend. There was a pounding, gripping sense within me that said, "He is not telling the truth."I cared deeply about the man, but it was obvious to everyone but himself that deception had set in. When I met with him, he stated, "Yes, I met her at a motel several times — in different places around the coun¬try. But we did not have sex.""That's very hard to believe," I responded. I droveaway from that meeting trying my best to assimilate what I had seen and heard. Because it was a private, confidential meeting, there was no one to talk to. No one with whom I could share my thoughts. Finally, in desperation, the words came thundering out of my mouth, "Whatever happened to the truth?"Millions of people are haunted by questions of deception. "Why wasn't I totally honest?" "Why did I say such a thing?" "Why did I change the story?" "What will happen if the truth gets out?"The reason I have such deep feelings concerning this topic is because there was a point in my life when I compromised the truth because I wanted to hide something, and I paid a horrible price. If, as a result of writing this treatise, I can help you avoid such a pit¬fall, my time, my prayers, and my work will have been well spent.I cannot begin to describe the total liberation and peace that comes when we step into the light. Many people accept God's grace and unconditional forgive¬ness, but stop at that point. They fail to move on to a total cleansing, a new life, and a deep relationship with God.It is my prayer that as a result of reading this book you will make a commitment with me that truth, and how we deal with secrets, will be the central, driving force of your life.

1891 The Changed Life Henry Drummond Christian Living Classic, Drummond Henry 1851-1897
3 Drummond Henry 1851-1897 1891 The Changed Life Henry Drummond Christian Living Classic
New York, J. Pott 1891-01-01 Hardcover Used: Good Hardcover Standard Hardcover
This hardcover book was published in 1891 by James Pott and Company with 32 pages. The text is unmarked. The binding is sound though the spine is slightly tilted and the hinges are weakening. No dust jacket. The pages are toned with heavy foxing. PREFACE:LAST autumn, in a bookshop in California, the author found a little book with his name upon the title-page—a book which he did not know existed; which he never wrote; nor baptized with the title which it bore. This stray publication—taken from shorthand notes of a spoken Address—he does not grudge. Already, it seems, it has done its small measure of good. But, owing to the imperfections which it contains, it has been thought right to issue a more complete edition. The theme, like its predecessors in this series, represents but a single aspect of its great subject—the man-ward side. The light and shade is apportioned with this in view. And the reader's kind attention is asked to this limitation, lest he wonder at points being left in shadow which theology has always, and rightly, taught us to em-phasize.It was the hearing of a simple talk by a friend to some plain people in a Highland deer-forest which first called the author's attention to the practicalness of this solution of the cardinal problem of Christian experience. What follows owes a large debt to that Sunday morning.

1908 THE SECOND MILE Harry Emerson Fosdick Modernist Christian Living, Fosdick, Harry Emerson
4 Fosdick, Harry Emerson 1908 THE SECOND MILE Harry Emerson Fosdick Modernist Christian Living
Young Men's Christian Association Press 1908-01-01 Hardcover Used: Acceptable Hardcover Standard Hardcover
The front free endpaper is lacking (missing). This hardcover book was published in 1908 by the Young Men's Christian Association Press with 52 pages. The text contains about 25 pages with notes in the margins and a couple scattered underlines. The binding is weakened as the hinges are cracking. The covers are moderately sooiled. No dust jacket. The pages are toned. Previous owners name present. The edges are heavily worn. The top of the spine panel is chipped. The corners are bumped and the tips are rubbed through. Random excerpt from the text:You require me to live here, but I will go twice as far as that. I will not only live here, but I will make it worth while living here; and these very hedges which you say must always bind me in, I will husband until they are as fragrant as English hawthorne or Scotch heather, and people who cried, ' What cruel limitations!' shall yet say, 'What a beautiful hedge!'"History loves to record the names of men who conquered the malice of their fate by this spirit of the second mile—men like the old Greek chosen in a joke to be town scavenger, who rilled the office with such high service-ableness that thereafter in all Greece the office was an honor; men like blind Huber becoming the great scientist, or blind Fawcett becoming Postmaster-General of England; men like Cervantes using an imprisonment to begin " Don Quixote," or Bunyan glorifying Bedford Jail with the " Pilgrim's Progress"; men of the spirit of those four marines from the British ship " Wager " of whom Stevenson tells us, who, compelled to remain on a desert island because the lifeboat could hold no more, stood on the shore and gave three cheers when the boat pulled off—with a " God save the King!" for a tiger. These men history delights to honor, for, in the end, time endorses God's evaluations. And where in humbler expressions this same spirit of the second mile is found, as when the young woman wrote her friend out of her invalidism, " At first I thought somehow to make the best of it, but now I am planning how to make the most of it," every man with a heart for chivalry pays homage. These folk of the more abundant willingness travel with us the first hard mile of compulsion, but they make it beautiful with the second mile of consecration.

This paperback book has an unmarked text. The binding is tight. There is normal shelf and edge wear. What one item says the most about a person's life? A family tree? A diary? A prayer journal? Someone has suggested the best resource to reveal one's true priorities in life is the checkbook. Our canceled checks do indeed give access to every part of our lives and speak volumes about what we really think is important in life. Yes, money does talk! Our use of money is so much a reflection of what is on theinside of us that our Lord spoke often on the subject. One third of his thirty-eight parables deal with the way we handle our possessions. The Bible has a better stewardship plan for our lives than all the Wall Street brokerage houses combined. As we journey together from chapter to chapter in this volume, we will continue to hear our Lord affirm the fact that money talks and says a lot about what each of us thinks is really at the top of life's priorities. What about your canceled checks? What are they saying about what is truly important in your life?
